Dedication: Buford Scott

Buford ScottWith the greatest affection and respect, we dedicate this production to the everlasting memory of our longstanding friend and supporter, Buford Scott. Buford and his wife Susie have been actively enabling children’s educational programming at Virginia Rep pretty much since the 1975 founding of Theatre IV, Virginia’s first professional children’s theatre. Buford truly has two claims to fame — one in business (he served as chairman of what is now Richmond-based BB&T Scott & Stringfellow from 1974 until last year), and one in charity (he and Susie were among the leaders you turned to first if you needed guidance or support for any worthy effort serving children and education). Most notably, Buford was the cornerstone leader and stalwart supporter of Elk Hill Farm, a Goochland County-based nonprofit that provides a home and education to children who need to be removed from their families and/or schools. As Buford often said, “When they arrive, they think they are born losers. When they leave, they think they are born winners.” Richmond has lost a man of abiding faith and a legendary leader. Along with our entire community, we salute the great Buford Scott, a born winner if ever there was one.
