Children's Theatre & Education Internship

2017 - 2018 Season

The Children’s Theatre & Education Intern will gain valuable experience working in a professional theatre environment while performing the following duties:

  • Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of educational programming and outreach including Tiny Tales, preschool story drama classes, Spring Break Camp, after-school enrichment workshops and residencies, ELLA (Early Literacy Learning through the Arts) lessons in public schools.
  • Represent and market the Virginia Rep’s Children’s Theatre at community events
  • Provide administrative support to Education Department as needed
  • House manage and/or work backstage crew for select Virginia Rep productions
  • Additional projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in theatre, education or a related field
  • Experience and passion for working with youths of all ages, but particularly preschool and elementary aged children
  • Demonstrates a high level of comfort with improvisation as well as modeling a variety of different character roles during creative drama lessons.
  • Understanding of theatrical performance and a desire to connect theatre with other subject areas through arts integration
  • Work comfortably and effectively in a diverse, collaborative environment
  • Strong interest in theatre and/or working for a nonprofit organization preferred

General Information:

Duration of Internship: August 29, 2017 – May 21, 2018
Compensation: $180/week without Virginia Rep housing; $130/week with Virginia Rep housing
Supervisor: Education Manager
