Stage Management / Electrics Internship

2017 - 2018 Season

The Stage Management / Electrics Intern will gain valuable experience working in a professional theatre environment while performing the following duties:

Stage Management

  • Assist Virginia Rep stage managers during both the rehearsal and performance process of productions
  • Work with various production departments (scenic, props, electrics, sound, and costumes) as needed
  • Prepare and distribute paperwork including rehearsal reports, performance reports, meeting minutes, etc.
  • Help organize and maintain the digital script library
  • Crew or stage manage select Virginia Rep productions
  • Additional projects as assigned


  • Assist with electrics load-in, hang, focus, and strike
  • Help facilitate audio/visual setup for special events and projects
  • Clean and organize electrics equipment
  • Crew one of Virginia Rep’s summer productions
  • Additional projects as assigned


  • Prior experience in Stage Managing required; some technical theatre background preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office)
  • Background in electrics and/or sound design or engineering
  • Basic knowledge of modern lighting and sound equipment required; experience with computerized sound systems a plus
  • Comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs. and working in a harness at heights up to approximately 60 ft.
  • Work comfortably and effectively in a diverse, collaborative environment
  • Strong interest in theatre and/or working for a nonprofit organization preferred

General Information:

Duration of Internship: August 29, 2017 – May 21, 2018
Compensation: $180/week without Virginia Rep housing; $130/week with Virginia Rep housing
Supervisor: Associate Artistic Director
