The Scenic Carpenter reports to the Production Manager and Technical Directors and works to construct, transport, install, maintain and strike scenery for a season of programming in four distinct venues, an educational touring arm and special events.

Responsibilities:

  • Work under the supervision of the Technical Directors to execute scenic construction with various materials including wood, metal, plastics and fabrics
  • Participate in the construction, load-in, maintenance and strike of all scenic elements for multiple shows in multiple venues
  • Build set pieces according to technical drawings or other direction
  • Participate in the upkeep and cleanliness of work spaces and maintenance of equipment and shop facilities in order to maintain an efficient and safe work environment

Qualifications:

  • Personable and culturally competent team player who is committed to collaborating in a safe, friendly and inclusive work environment
  • Demonstrated professional theatrical carpentry experience and knowledge of theatrical carpentry techniques
  • Working knowledge of drafting software and ability to read CAD drafting of ground plans, sections and plates
  • Proficient with power and hand tools, including table saws, mitre saws, circular and jig saws, pneumatics
  • Ability to troubleshoot and adapt throughout the construction process
  • Understanding of industry safety and OSHA regulations for live performances
  • Comfortable working at heights on ladders, lifts, fly rail and grid
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, stand for long periods, work in low light situations and at heights on ladders, lifts and grids
  • Positive attitude and desire to be part of a team

This position begins July 9, 2024 and is eligible for annual and sick leave, participation in company health, life, dental and vision insurance plans, as well as our 403(b) retirement plan. This is a full time, non-exempt position with an annual salary of $35,000.

Virginia Repertory Theatre is seeking a Development Assistant to join our full-time staff. This individual will work closely with Virginia Rep's Development Team and will report to the Assistant Director of Development. The Development Assistant will have an opportunity to gain administrative experience in this key role at a major nonprofit performing arts organization in Richmond, VA.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Process gifts made by individual, corporate, and foundation donors in Tessitura.
  • Maintain donor information in Tessitura.
  • Maintain Development files and records.
  • Create and mail donor acknowledgement letters within one week of donation receipt.
  • Assist with preparation and mailing of all solicitation letters.
  • Run reports through Tessitura.
  • Conduct funder prospect research.

General Responsibilities:

  • Participate in full staff, Development team, and one-on-one meetings.
  • Attend and help facilitate the annual Anything Goes Gala and other events.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit fundraising.
  • Familiarity with performing arts organizations, preferably professional theatre.
  • Willingness to work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Ability to understand and respect social nuances, practices, and views of people of various backgrounds, identities, and cultures, and effectively interact with people of diverse communities.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite (Docs, Sheets).
  • Experience with databases and/or knowledge of Tessitura CRM preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

The Electrics Apprentice reports to the Production Manager and Production Electrician as a member of the production staff to implement all lighting needs for a season of programming in four distinct venues, an educational touring arm and special events. Apprenticeships are seasonal appointments, with the possibility of renewal for a second season, and are designed to create access to entry level jobs to assist young practitioners in building skill and experience as they start their careers.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Production Electrician with general organization and maintenance of all lighting equipment, hang, focus, and programming for each production. 
  • Assist with channel checks and perform routine maintenance during the run of productions.
  • Work as Light Board Operator for productions as assigned throughout the season.
  • Attend production and department meetings as assigned
  • Participate in the upkeep and cleanliness of work spaces and maintenance of equipment in order to maintain an efficient and safe work environment

Qualifications:

  • Personable, positive and culturally competent team player who is committed to collaborating in a safe, friendly and inclusive work environment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Working theatrical knowledge in the Apprentice's area of focus – this position should possess basic knowledge of theatrical lighting systems, instruments, and equipment (ETC Ion console, networking, cabling, circuiting, etc).
  • Working knowledge of lighting and drafting software and the ability to read ground plans, sections, elevations, plots and supporting paperwork (channel hookups, dimmer plots, magic sheets, etc.)
  • Comfortable with power and hand tools associated with work in the electrics department
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft and Google Suite
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks as instructed and on time
  • Ability to troubleshoot and adapt throughout the production process
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record a plus, but not required for all apprenticeships
  • Understanding of industry safety and OSHA regulations for live performances
  • Comfortable working at heights on ladders, lifts, fly rail and grid
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods and work in low light situations
  • A strong desire and commitment to personal learning and growing through hands on work opportunity and professional mentorship

  • Works with the Scenic and Props departments throughout the production process to implement the scenic paint and props designs for all productions
  • Participate in the construction, rehearsals, load-in, performances, maintenance and strike for multiple shows in multiple venues as assigned
  • Attend production and department meetings as assigned
  • Participate in the upkeep and cleanliness of work spaces and maintenance of equipment and shop facilities in order to maintain an efficient and safe work environment

Qualifications:

  • Comfortable with power and hand tools associated with work in the paint and props departments
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft and Google programs
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks as instructed meeting deadlines
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record a plus, but not required for all apprenticeships
  • Ability to troubleshoot and adapt throughout the production process
  • Understanding of industry safety and OSHA regulations for live performances
  • Comfortable working at heights on ladders and lifts
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and work in low light situations
  • A strong desire and commitment to personal learning and growing through hands on work opportunity and professional mentorship
