April 2 – April 3

A New Program at Virginia Rep – VA Rep For All

By Eboni Booth
Directed by Dr. Tawnya Pettiford-Wates

ABOUT VIRGINIA REP FOR ALL

Dedicated to barrier free access to the arts, Virginia Repertory Theatre is piloting a new initiative in Spring 2026—VA Rep for All. The program aims to bring story-centered, engaging, professional theatre to a broader audience – in particular those audiences that may experience geographical, financial, or mobility barriers to their attendance. As its premiere program, VA Rep will bring its production of Eboni Booth’s Pulitzer prize winner, Primary Trust, to the Petersburg Public Library Conference & Event Center April 2 and 3 for two Pay-What-You-Will performances. Featuring the same script as the productions performed Downtown, technical elements have been re-imagined specifically for these new spaces—creating fresh experiences in these communities with story and connection at the heart.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Meet Kenneth, a man whose world—defined by routine and the comforting presence of his friend, Bert—is suddenly upended. Faced with the loss of his job and the familiar structure of his life, Kenneth is forced to confront the daunting task of accepting a new reality. Playwright Eboni Booth’s Pulitzer-prize winning Primary Trust takes an often humorous, sometimes heartbreaking, always human look into the process of finding one’s footing in an uncertain world.

Hailed as “the kind of light that we all need in our lives right now” by The Sound on Stage and praised by The New York Times as a “tender, delicately detailed portrait…,” this is the story your heart has been waiting for.⁣

Recommended for ages 13 and older. Primary Trust contains mature themes including grief/loss, exploration of mental health, and mild language.
