Community Health and Wellness

Virginia Repertory Theatre uses the art form of theatre to serve the community in traditional and exceptional ways. The "exceptional ways" redefine how professional theatre can connect with communities.

Our Community Health and Wellness program creates and assesses model projects that use theatre to address vital, non-traditional community needs.

Here are our current programs that can be accessed:

Hugs and Kisses
Child sexual abuse prevention and early intervention

Family Involvement in Early Language Development
Promoting early language development, empowering parents to create language-rich environments for their children from birth to age four

Sensory Friendly Performances
For children and adolescents on the autism spectrum

Theatre Access for the Blind and Vision Impaired
Pre-show tactile tours and live audio description in partnership with Virginia Voice

Making Music/Making Joy
One of Virginia Rep's favorite musical actresses, Debra Wagoner, is developing this new initiative, which uses music to address isolation and emotional health for seniors facing dementia.

All Community Health and Wellness programs are:

  • Developed in partnership with other nonprofits
  • Based on scientific and educational research
  • Respond to scientific and educational goals
  • Evaluated  professionally and independently
