"Skillfully guides the audience through a plethora of emotions, but I never felt manipulated, and it shines a revelatory light onto the lives of black families in a particular time and place in America. One couldn’t ask for anything more"
"[Wilson] is a great storyteller, no question about that."
"This production promises to be a true celebration of African American community, family and history, but Jones says the show has a universal appeal."
"To finally be able to do this play is truly a gift."
Audiences loved the show on opening night:
This Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning drama tells the story of Troy Maxson, a sanitation worker in 1950s Pittsburgh. Once a star in the Negro leagues, Troy’s dream of playing in the majors was denied due to the color of his skin. Years later, Troy’s bitterness takes its toll on his relationship with his son, who now wants his own chance to play ball.
