Attending a Performance

The House opens approximately 30 minutes to curtain. We recommend leaving ample time to find parking when visiting us on Broad Street. Performances with large houses may see delays in restroom and bar lines.

If you arrive late, you may be seated in different seats than you originally purchased. Due to the nature of the space, there is no late seating for performances in the Theatre Gym. Please let us know in advance if you can’t make it by curtain time, and we will work with you to change your ticket plan.

Ticket Exchanges

All sales are final and non-refundable, but if you contact us at least 24 hours in advance of curtain time, we are able to exchange tickets for a new performance or on-account credit (credits are valid for 5 years from date of issue). Single ticket exchanges carry a $5 exchange fee and subscribers are able to exchange without a fee up to 24 hours before a performance.

If you exchange for a higher ticket price, you are required to pay the difference. Exchanges to a lower ticket price will not receive a refund.

Missed Performance

Tickets unclaimed at curtain time will be converted to a tax-deductible donation to the theatre, so please get in touch with us if you are running late (and remember there is no late seating at the Theatre Gym). This applies to both subscriber and single tickets. Emergency concerns will be handled on a case by case basis.

We don’t have a specific dress code beyond a basic “no shirt, no shoes, no service”. Our audiences range from semi-casual to formal depending on their preferences. We do reserve the right to ask patrons to leave or change if their outfit has inappropriate or offensive language or imagery.

Virginia Rep does not have a fixed age requirement but, with the exception of titles in our Jessie Bogese Art Experiences series, we do not recommend children under 5 for our performances.

Specific age recommendations and content warnings are listed on individual show pages. We always recommend reading a summary of the plays to use your best judgment.

All patrons, regardless of age, are required to purchase a ticket.

Please see our Plan Your Visit page for parking information.

We aim to provide as accurate information as possible for parking but encourage patrons to carefully read all posted parking signage. VA Rep is not responsible for towed cars.

Please note: The row labeled “Theatre Row” behind the Renaissance is ONLY for Theatre Row Apartments, and patron cars will be towed.

We work with several organizations to provide services to make the experience at Virginia Rep accessible. Please visit our accessibility page for full descriptions for each venue but VA Rep provides –

  • Sensory Adaptive Performances
  • Induction Loop Hearing Devices
  • Audio Described Performances
  • ASL Interpretation Services
  • ADA Accessible Seating

Service Animals are also welcome.

In the event Virginia Rep has to cancel a performance, ticket holders will be contacted via email and text message. There are multiple options for ticket holders –

  • Exchange for another performance – at no cost to the ticket holder
  • Receive a credit for a future production – valid for up to 5 years
  • Refund the ticket to the original source of payment – may take up to 10 business days
  • Donate the ticket – your tax deductible donation helps support community access, education programs, and the art created at VA Rep!

Performances continue as scheduled unless we experience a loss of power or extremely dangerous conditions.

In the event of a weather-related cancellation, you will be contacted through the email you provide during your ticket purchase and through a text message to the number provided—you may request to move to a different performance, to receive a refund, move to an on account credit valid for up to 5 years, or opt to make a tax-deductible donation with the cost of your ticket.

If we ARE able to continue the performance, for patrons who cannot travel safely, we will gladly issue replacement tickets for another performance of the same play, pending availability, or move your tickets into an on account credit valid for up to 5 years. Please contact the Box Office before curtain time of the show you’ll be missing to let us know you won’t be attending and to make arrangements. The Box Office email is tickets@virginiarep.org.

Unfortunately we are unable to retroactively apply discounts or combine promotions. We recommend following us on social media and subscribing to our newsletter to receive promotions.

There are many reasons ticket prices vary from performance to performance based on venue, time, title, demand, and day-of-week.

We do! Please see our Gift Page to learn more.

Purchasing directly from the Virginia Rep is the only way to get verified tickets – please do not purchase tickets from third party vendors.

Patrons are urged to purchase tickets directly through our website or by calling 804-282-2620. There are many reasons to avoid third-party ticket sellers, including:

  • We are unable to provide any customer service for your tickets – including any exchanges or refunds.
  • We cannot guarantee your tickets are genuine
  • You will likely pay more than face value
  • We cannot replace lost or stolen tickets
  • We cannot contact you with information regarding pre-show information, show cancellations, time changes, traffic updates, or other useful pieces of information
  • You are supporting businesses that make it more difficult for true fans to see artists without paying a premium charge

Additionally, if we are unable to verify your ticket as valid when scanned at the venue, patrons will have to repurchase tickets at rush prices (if available). We are unable to refund any portion of the price of the ticket purchased on a 3rd party site. VA Rep does not work with GoTickets, StubHub, Facebook Marketplace, Ticketmaster or any other similar site.

HOW TO AVOID TICKET SCAMS

  • Always buy directly from the theatre’s website or by calling the Box Office (804-282-2620)
  • If things look suspicious, give us a call before you purchase – for shows in the November Theater and Hanover Tavern you should be able to select specific seats.
  • Check the price – our tickets will not be over $85 for any performance in the 2026-2027 season
