Frequently Asked Questions

Have another question about visiting the theatre? Please call our box office at (804) 282-2620, or email Janine Sears, Box Office Manager.

General Information

If there is inclement weather or power outage, how do I learn of changes in performance schedule?  Our box office will make every attempt to call patrons, but please check our facebook page for updates, or call (804) 282-2620.

How long before the performance should I arrive? We suggest arriving 15 to 30 minutes before curtain.

What should I wear? Going to the theatre is an event, but we also want our patrons to be comfortable. Don’t feel like you have to dress to the nines. Most people come to our shows in business casual attire, but if you’re a blue jeans kind of person, you’re more than welcome to come as you are! Shirts and shoes are required, of course, but ties are not. So wear what you feel good in for a night on the town.

What is your refund policy?  We regret that we cannot offer refunds.  You can exchange your tickets to another performance or even another production. Please see below for details.

What is your exchange policy? If you know in advance that you cannot attend a show, call the box office at (804) 282-2620 up to 24 hours before curtain, and they will be happy to exchange your tickets for another date.  There is a small exchange fee of $5 per seat for nonsubscribers.  Subscribers are never charged the exchange fee.  (Depending on the performance you exchange into, or which seat zone you exchange into, there may be a service fee to cover the difference in ticket price.)

Do you have wheel chair accessible seating? All of our venues are wheelchair accessible. You can purchase wheelchair seating online or via the box office. For details, please see our accessibility page.

What are the benefits of being a subscriber?  Subscribers receive a 25% discount, first choice of the best seats, and the ability to buy additional tickets to any show at the 25% discount. Subscribers also receive unlimited exchanges up to 24 hour to curtain (Depending on the performance you exchange into, or which seat zone you exchange into, there may be a service fee to cover the difference in ticket price.) Signature and Hanover series subscribers can keep the same seats year after year.

If I am a subscriber and I would like to buy additional tickets to a show in my package or to a show outside my package, do I receive the subscriber discount? The subscriber discount for additional single tickets is 25%.

Can I plan a reception or corporate event before a show?  Yes. Please contact Jennings Whiteway at (804) 783-1688 ext. 1128.

Visiting the Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre at Virginia Rep Center

Directions

Order early to reserve Orchestra seating!

With the exception of the first row, grand tier balcony seats are considerably narrower and offer less leg room than orchestra seating. Grand Tier Balcony seats are most comfortable for people 5’ 4” and below. Some people who are up to 5’ 7” or 5’ 8” might be fine if they are of smaller frame. (Grand Tier Balcony seats are only available for select productions.)

How do I get my tickets?  You can print your tickets at home, or we will hold them at Will Call at the November Theatre.  However, the box office will mail tickets to you if requested for a fee of $2. You can also stop by our November or Willow Lawn box office between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to pick tickets up in advance.

Where do I park for Virginia Rep Center?  Please visit our parking page.

Where do school buses park? Buses unload in front of the theatre. Staff will then direct you to parking during the performance.

Are there good places to dine before a show?  Yes! Please visit our dining page.

What are the local accommodations?

Is the theatre wheelchair accessible?

Yes. Wheelchair accessible seating can be purchased online or via the box office at (804) 282-2620. It is only available at orchestra level; there is no elevator to the grand tier balcony.

Yes! Thanks to a generous gift from Sara Belle and Neil November and a partnership with Richmond Hearing Doctors, a new state-of the-art induction loop hearing system has been installed in the November Theatre.

What is a preview night? A preview is a full performance of a new production that is about to open. The production is finished and ready to be performed, but it is unpolished. Having previews allows us to polish the performance for two days prior to presenting the production to the critics. When we produce a play, the audience plays a major role in the process. Preview audiences are the very first people to see and enjoy the full, finished production.

Where can I find a list of all performance times at the November Theatre? Please see the November Theatre performance schedule.

Where will my seats be located? Please see our seating chart. You can also see a live view of which seats are currently available to a performance at the November Theatre by clicking "Purchase" next to any date in the performance schedule. You can purchase available seats online or by calling our box office at (804) 282-2620.

At what age should I bring my child to the theatre? The Children's Theatre of Virginia is the perfect place for a young child's first exposure to live theatre. Most shows last about an hour and children 3 and up will enjoy the costumes and music, even if they don't completely follow the story line. Children who attend theatre in the early years tend to enjoy and better understand performances when they are older. However, some performances are longer and geared for older children so please check the individual show pages for the ideal age.  While the staff at the Children's Theatre of Virginia loves babies and young toddlers, we encourage you to find childcare for infants and children under three. Many times the change in lighting and sound can be disconcerting to very young children.

Do I need to pay for a baby or toddler ticket? We are required to ticket every patron and regret that we cannot offer refunds if you need to leave the performance early.

How long are the shows?  Most children's shows run about 1 hour though our large musicals can last 2 hours.  Please check the show pages for length and age appropriateness.

Do you provide babysitting? We regret that we are unable to offer a babysitting service.

Do you provide birthday parties? Yes, we do.  Please call Mark Persinger at (804) 783-1688 ext. 1118.

If my child will not eat much at the Brunch with Santa and Snow Bear, do I need to pay for him/her?  Yes. The majority of the $15 covers the cost of entertainment and activities.

Where can I find a list of all performance times at the Children's Theatre at Willow Lawn? Please see the Willow Lawn performance schedule.
