Story Drama

At the Children's Theatre at Willow Lawn

Story Drama

Classic stories come alive as students delve into the imaginary worlds of their favorite books. Using age-appropriate creative drama, experienced Virginia rep teaching artists guide the participants through a fun, interactive, multi-sensory journey and into a work of children’s literature.

Each Story Drama lesson presents a problem paralleling the theme from the chosen book. The teaching artists take on different character roles as the story unfolds while encouraging the children to offer ideas and suggestions on ways to solve the presented problem, which is eventually discovered within the pages of the book.

This one hour program is designed for children ages 3 ½ - 6 years old as an ideal introduction to the magical world of theatre. Each 6 week session will explore a different set of books inspired by the selected theme.

Story Drama at a glance:

“Thanks for a fabulous presentation of “The Night Before Christmas”! I know you would have made it work with any number of children, but I was very pleasantly surprised by the large turnout we had! . . . I think it was pretty obvious that they had a great time joining in the fun that you always are able to provide. Thanks, too, for helping me remember how to pretend and enjoy the innocent fun of childhood again. It is a skill that grows rusty if it is not used; and alas, I have allowed mine to grow quite tarnished. Thanks for knocking off some of the dust! May you never, ever grow up completely!”
